| We were in our final year of training, well Vas and I were, and were
soon to be married. After years of trying to get Vas to ask me out
on a date I had to TELL him he was going to go fishing with me. I did
everything under the sun to get his attention, but nothing worked except
that. If it weren't for his love of fishing I don't think that would
have even worked. We spent years together and that days pain would
forever scar us.
It was cold that brisk warm day. Not physically cold, just eerily cold. The cold you could feel under your skin; not on top. Yverthad, Vasette and I were out on the docks doing our usual Saturday afternoon routine of fishing to see who got the biggest fish. We collected our fish every Saturday and then and donated them to the locals, so it wasn't just a sport but it made it fun. Yverthad saw them first and charged at me and Vas knocking us into the harbor. At first I didn't know what was going on but as I heard the screams coming from the docks I knew there was something wrong. We hid under the docks at first until we realized that's where the invaders would look after everyone on top was dead so we swam out. We watched from about 100 yards as our local village was slaughtered and destroyed. Slowly the invaders moved inland but the three of us agreed to wait until they were gone before going inland. The water was warm and we were all expert swimmers so we had nothing to worry about, at least not until we reached shore. *sighs deeply remembering* Hours went by and the invaders slowly returned to their ships at the docks. A portal opened just south of the center of the Maelstrom, which must have been why we never saw them coming. Their mages must have found away to portal the entire boat there for the attack. *cries lightly* As the water was disturbed by the portal a vortex formed pulling my Vasette from me. Yverthad and I held on to each other as we tried to reach out to him but he was too far and the water was moving to fast. He went under and then didn't come up... And nothing... We swam back towards shore, or so we thought. We kept swimming and swimming but with no on on shore to light the candles we couldn't see we eventually stopped about 2am as the moon started to set. We were both so tired. Exhaustion from trying to swim had been taken over by hunger pains. We sat there almost cold, which thank goodness it was warm water, when after about 15 minutes of discussion exactly HOW FAR we thought we has swam AWAY from land we saw a light. Very feint at first but then it grew brighter as the boat came closer. Yverthad being the much less winded of the two of us cried out and luckily a dwarf on the bow heard us or we surely would have been crushed by the hull. They came to a stop and laid anchor fro a short while while they plucked us out of the sea. A dwarf, the same one who heard Y, named Glyndorean lifted me and him out of the sea and delivered us to life. Y became a temporary hand on the boat while I cooked to show appreciation of what they had done for us. I shead my tears as I cleaned the fruits and prepared the meats. My favorite to prepare was the Jungle Stew. They seemed to have a large abundance of tiger meat and when we returned to port I found out why. Glyndorean's boat had sailed out from Booty Bay. 3 years passed and I had tried to deal with my loss and Yverthad's every consistent statement that he still lives. I fought to hold hope he was right. On a simple afternoon when I was helping Yverthad mine in Westfall, Yverthad blurts out, "He's gone." My heart sunk and I finally stopped hopping and chose to ask Glyndorean to be by my side. A lady of my standing should not be single forever, and well even though there would be no children it would have made my parents happy. Months went by and Glyn and I had become great friends and partners. I happened to go to Booty Bay because I had heard a man with my beloveds name was able to make a robe that I needed. As I flew in on the gryphon and landed there before me stood a more regal, war beaten, strong version of my beloved. I could not contain myself but I had to because my beloved was dead... Even Y said so.. They were connected... It wasn't until his eyes filled up with tears that I knew it was him. I crashed to my knees and thanked the gods that he had returned to me. Vasette picked me up carried me into the inn and helped me come to a state where I could breathe and not stutter every other word as "oh god" which took quite a bit of ale. After talking for a while Vasette and I caught up everything and we decided to end the "relations" we had and try to keep the friendships we had formed. Glyn took it quite well and chose to stand aside as "backup" incase I did loose my love "for real this time." Leave it to a dwarf to say something like that. His "beloved" and her sister did not take it as well as Glyn. Sylkie was crushed and Wyspir ripped him apart as if it was his fault I was still alive. And now we stand here before you as the last heretics of the Great Sea. We will stand beside you as long as you stand beside us. |
