Leave computers on or off?

Many things happen when your CHFA computer is otherwise unused, virus scans, automatic updates etc. If you turn your computer off none of this can take place. Please leave your CHFA computer ON at all times - nights, weekends etc. They should NOT be left in sleep mode, but we do recommend logging Off if your operating system allows it. Waking from sleep is a common time for computers to lock up, and updates can't be run while in sleep mode.

When CHFA|TECH sets up machines we set the monitor (the component that uses the most electricity) to automatically go into a low power state after a few minutes without use to save energy. A traditional monitor is by far the most power hungry part of a computer, by having them go to low-power mode we are saving most of the electricity that would be saved by turning the whole system off.

We are now buying flat panel monitors that will replace traditional CRT's through attrition. These have many advantages over CRT's. They use less power, create less heat, the picture doesn't degrade over time, they have longer life, and don't contain the heavy metals that CRT's do.

Again, please leave your computer ON when you are not using it. As it will cost us many man-hours to replace the automated processes that happen to your machine.
