Macintosh Users -- Microsoft security updates are available
One additional thing that should be mentioned is that it is very likely that your aliases will no longer work after this upgrade. The easiest solution is just to delete the old aliases of Office (Word, PowerPoint, & Excel), Internet Explorer, and Outlook Express and to create new ones. The easiest method of creating new aliases if to find the original software item (inside its respective folder inside Applications) and drag the item while holding down the Apple and Option keys to the desired location.

Macintosh Users -- Microsoft security updates are available
Microsoft has issued patches to fix security flaws affecting Internet Explorer and Office running on Macintosh machines. One of the flaws covered is a buffer overrun problem that would allow hackers to execute applications on a Mac if that computer's user had visited a Web page that contains code exploiting the security hole. The other flaw could allow hackers to run AppleScript, which can do such tasks as shutting down a computer or closing windows, on the Macs of people who visited
Web pages with malicious code. The security bulletin and patches are available at Microsoft Technet.
These security holes in particular affect anyone using Internet Explorer or Outlook Express, but can also affect users of Microsoft Office.
Below are the instructions for fixing the holes yourself. If you do not feel comfortable doing this, please call us at 3-7349 or submit a work request and we will be happy to help you as soon as we can.
Instructions for obtaining the patched Microsoft products:
1) Open the Chooser from the Apple Menu
2) From the window in the upper left, select AppleShare by clicking on it once
3) From the window in the lower left, select CHFA_TS_RESOURCES as the AppleTalk zone
4) From the window in the right, select Prometheus and click on the OK button
5) Once the log-in window opens, select the radio button next to Guest and click the Connect button
6) Scroll through the list of volumes and select "Mac Applcation Masters" and click the OK button (Do NOT put a check mark in the box next to the volume name!)
7) Find the volume Mac Applcation Masters that is now on your desktop and double-click to open it.
8) Double-click the folder Mac
9) Open the appropriate folder
9a) For Office, double-click Microsoft Office 2001
9b) For Internet Explorer, double-click Network Software ƒ, then Internet Explorer, and then Internet Explorer
9c) For Outlook Express, double-click Network Software ƒ, then Outlook Express 5
10) All of these applications install the same way and have instructions -- simply drag the appropriate folder (Microsoft Office 2001, Internt Explorer 5.1, or Outlook Express 5.0.4) to your computer.
11) For best results, you should locate your original software (probably in the "Applications (OS 9)" folder) and throw it away. If you drag the folder from step 10 into the Applications folder, you will get a message asking if you want to replace the existing item -- selecting OK will erase the older item.
