Dead shortcut to Word, Excel on Windows 2000 computer?
We are finishing the transition from Office 2000 to Office XP. If you created a shortcut to your desktop or quick launch tray (to the right of the start button on a "normally" arranged Windows desktop) to Word 2000, Excel 2000, Power Point 2000, etc. they will no longer work.
First - delete the dead shortcuts (if you click them they will say "this shortcut is only valid for installed applications") by clicking the right mouse button and choosing delete.
Second - the location for the shortcuts for MS Office XP is C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs... there are literally dozens of ways to create a shortcut, depending on how/where you learned to use MS Windows or any other graphical user interface operating system.
The easiest way to describe the process: click start - then run. In the run line type C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs
and hit enter. A window will appear with the shortcut/icons. Simply drag the ones you want where you want them. A copy should be made. If the icon moves instead of making a copy, you will want to move it back, then right click the icon - choose copy, then move the mouse where you want the shortcut, right mouse click and choose paste.
It's that easy!
