Scumware! - Precision Time and Date Manager programs
Our good old friend Gator is back. This time you are encouraged by various web sites to download "a free program to keep you clock accurate always." What they don't tell you clearly is that along with the clock setting software (which is NOT necessary for any CHFA computer - we already have clock synchronization software installed) you are allowing them to monitor WHAT web pages you visit and WHEN.
In addition to violating your privacy, the Gator application has caused problems with the UNI PIN-based web sites such as My Universe.
We ask that you do not install these programs on your University computer. We have set our license monitoring software to prevent the installation or running of as many of these applications as we can. If you get a message on your screen from Key Server saying "Your computer is attempting to launch spy-ware program. This software violates your privacy, and therefore is being blocked by KeyServer. Please contact CHFA|TECH at x37349 for assistance in removing the offending software." - you can contact us, or remove Gator, Offer Companion, Date Manager, and/or Precision Time.
We also use a free utility called Ad-Aware to analyze Windows computers for other privacy compromising "junkware" or "scumware." Lavasoft is the creator of Ad-Aware - click here for more information
