Small error found on CHFA systems -- Macintosh OS X 10.3

Earlier today we tracked an occasional error message to an error in one of the system files on Macintosh computers running OS X 10.3. The most obvious symptom of this error was a message at login saying that the user could not log in at this time.

We have already patched this error remotely. However, for the patch to be effective, the machines must be shut down. We would ask that if you have Mac OS 10.3 running on your computer, to shut it down before leaving today. This goes against our practice of requesting that machines be left on and merely logged out of, and it only applies for today, Wednesday, February 18.

Unsure which OS you are running. Check the upper left hand corner of your computer. If the apple in that corner is striped, you are not running OS X and don't have to worry about it at all. If the apple is solid blue, click on it and select About This Mac. The window that pops up will list which OS you are running right under the large words Mac OS X. You only need to shut down your computer today if your OS is 10.3, 10.3.1, or 10.3.2.
