Mainframe/Word/Telnet - ''application not installed''

As stated in many CHFA techtalk newsletters: as we upgrade versions of software, personal shortcuts that many users create on their personal desktops or quick launch bars on Microsoft Windows computers will cease to function.

When you click on an obsolete shortcut icon you will receive an error similar to "shortcut only valid on installed applications." This is due to a new version of the application being installed on the machine you are using.

Please delete these older icons and use the shortcut in the "start menu" (On Windows XP - click start button - all programs, On Windows 2000 - click start button - programs). The currently installed version of applications is always listed in the "start menu."

Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint XP were replaced by the 2003 versions. These are located in the start menu in a folder named "Microsoft Office."

"IBM Mainframe" or "QWS3270" were replaced with "UNI IBM Mainframe"

"Telnet" or "Telnet to Acad" were replaced with an encrypted/secure program - "SSH Telnet" and "SSH Telnet to Acad."

To add a new shortcut to your personal desktop, right click the shortcut in the start menu and choose "Send to -> Desktop (create shortcut)."
