Windows XP Service Pack 2 - deployed to CHFA

In addition to the security updates from Microsoft that will be installed tonight, CHFA is moving ahead with the final installation of Windows XP Service Pack 2. All lab and classroom machines had this update installed in October. Select faculty and staff computers have run Service Pack 2 since its release in August. At this time the remaining faculty and staff computers in the college (136 remaining) will install this update automatically on the next reboot of the computer.

For all that followed our advise to leave the office computers running at night - this will all happen at 3AM while you hopefully are at home asleep. If you turn your computer running Windows XP off, when you turn on again it will automatically install this service pack.

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES can you interrupt the process. If you unplug/turn the computer off during the installation you will likely require us to reinstall Windows from scratch. This will DEFINATELY leave you without a working computer for several days. You will see a message on your screen "Installing Managed application: WinXP Service Pack 2 ***DO NOT TURN OFF COMPUTER***" during the install process. Installation takes twenty to 45 minutes depending on the age (speed) of the computer.
