Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird available to Windows XP computers

Mozilla's web browser (Firefox) and email client (Thunderbird) were updated to version 1.0 in November. CHFATECH has now made these software titles available to Windows XP computers in the College.

Firefox is Mozilla's web browser only product that many people are using as a substitute to Microsoft's Internet Explorer. PLEASE NOTE: not all web pages will display correctly or at all under Firefox. UNI Administrative Systems (such as MEMFIS) still recommend use of Internet Explorer. We have limited the web cache used by Firefox to four megabytes to speed user logon and logoffs. If you want a larger web cache you should use the Firefox Profile Manager and create a profile OUTSIDE of your Documents and Settings\%username% folder (this personal folder is limited to 30 megabytes since it is copied each time you login and logoff from any CHFA computer).

Thunderbird is Mozilla's email only product. Many of you have already used this from version 0.5, and 0.7x. Version 1.0 refines some of the settings and adds the ability to read RSS newsfeeds. You MUST create a profile with the Thunderbird Profile Manager since the program will almost immediately exceed your 30 megabyte user profile limit on first use. Instructions on creating a custom user profile are located on this web site:
