Important Information regarding Web Browsing on Windows Computers
CHFA Tech has deployed Internet Explorer 7 (IE 7) to all Windows systems. It includes numerous improvements in security and a clean, simple interface. IE 7 will be installed across the majority of University departments in accordance with Microsoft's recommendations. In fact, home PC's will likely install IE 7 on their own over the next few weeks. Mac users will remain unaffected as Microsoft discontinued Internet Explorer for Mac several years ago.
IE 7 looks very different in appearance from the current IE version. However, basic usage remains roughly the same. If users need additional help, while in IE 7, they simply need to press "F1" on the keyboard to bring up the full help for IE 7.
To have IE 7 show a menu bar like IE 6, simply tap the "Alt" key on the keyboard.
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ie7/about/quickreference.mspx has a complete list of keyboard shortcuts for those of you who would like to learn about them.
Two new features of IE 7 worth noting are described below:
Tabbed browsing allows you to browse multiple sites in a single browser window. Press the "Ctrl" key while clicking links or use the middle mouse button (press down on the scroll wheel) to open a link in a new tab.
The Anti-phishing filter "proactively warns and helps protect you against potential or known fraudulent sites and blocks the site if appropriate. The opt-in filter is updated several times per hour using the latest security information from Microsoft and several industry partners."
