Software Updates for Windows over Break

Over break we have deployed several updates for existing programs on Windows machines. These updates will be installed automatically as the computer starts up. The following programs have been updated:

1. Picasa - Updated from version 2.2 to 2.5
2. Java Runtime Environment - Updated from Java 1.5 update 9 to 1.5 update 10
3. Firefox - Updated from version 1.5.07 to 2.0.0.1
4. Thunderbird - Updated from version 1.5.0.7 to 1.5.0.9
5. Filezilla - Updated from version 2.2.26 to 2.2.29

In addition, the Office 2007 Compatibility Update has been deployed. This allows Office 2003 to open files created with the new Microsoft Office 2007 suites. The only new feature visible in office is the ability to save and load documents in the new format.

Firefox 2.0 has a mild interface and feature improvement, but overall the product did not change drastically. Picasa, Java, Thunderbird, and Filezilla should have no noticeable difference in usage.
